How You May Be Helping Your Acne Stick Around

Think you have acne all figured out? Nearly everyone will deal with it in their lifetime and there are so many treatments and products on the market to combat acne, it’s understandable that we all see ourselves as mini acne experts.

The truth is, acne is a complex skin issue that requires individualized treatment in order to see results and relief. The amount of options available might be overwhelming and you may be tempted to just jump onto whichever treatment bandwagon seems to be working for the most people, but that could be a big mistake that’s likely to just delay your skin becoming more clear.

If you’ve been trying to get control over your acne and aren’t seeing the results you want, here are some things you may be doing to hinder your progress.

Ignoring the Ingredients

Not all acne-fighting ingredients are created equal. When you have acne, you want to make sure your pores are cleared and your skin is properly moisturized. There are lots of over-the-counter acne products (and even some natural DIY options) that use ingredients which actually clog your irritated or infected pores more as you use them, leading to an increase in acne when all you want is relief! Other products contain harsh ingredients that strip your skin of its natural moisture barrier level and leave it dry and irritated. The next time you go shopping, carefully review the labels and avoid any products that contain sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES), Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), and natural oils like coconut, avocado, and olive oil.

Sticking to the “Same Old, Same Old”

Imagine eating the same thing, every day. Not only would you eventually get bored, your body would also be missing out on new flavors and nutrients. Your skin is the exact same way. When you use the same acne-fighting product for years, your skin is subjected to a stagnant acne regimen that never introduces new or different ingredients that could potentially help it clear up. Your skin will also stop reacting positively to the products you use on a regular basis, which in turn is wasting your money and time. Treat your skin to something new every couple of weeks and be mindful of what you’re changing up. Don’t go too drastic with new ingredients or methods, as that may aggravate your skin and make your acne worse! Just look at your current skincare routine and see where there might be room for some new things.

Not Going Deep Enough

When you see acne in the mirror, you may wonder how on earth that new spot or group of blemishes appeared overnight, but in reality, that acne has been brewing for around three months. This is why spot-treating acne is only a temporary fix, at best. If you want your acne to truly go away, you have to go deep to the source of the problem, which means it’s time for more than a nightly cream application. Sebacia’s treatment targets acne at its source and works over the course of three treatments to begin eliminating acne at the root. After 6-12 months, your acne should be visibly improved and your skin should be clearer.
